How to be a Student-Athlete in College

Strategies for Time Management:

  • Make a schedule that shows a time table of when you will accomplish your tasks (practices, games, class, homework, etc.)
  • Obtain a calendar that has your games and class schedule
  • Take a daily planner with you to class that you can update with what and when your assignments are due

Strategies for Getting Enough Rest:

  • Schedule out when you will need to go to sleep in order to get at least 8 hours of sleep, recommended amount to perform well the next day
  • Take small naps when you can during the day to rest up
  • Do not run yourself into the ground because this can cause you to be come sick from lack of sleep

Strategies for Overall Performance:

  • Eat food that is healthy for your mind and body
  • Drink lots of water
  • Cut back on sweets and fattening foods such as candy, sugary foods, chips, pop, etc.

Going through college as a student-athlete can be a very time consuming and stressful situation but, if you follow these simple strategies you will be able to perform your best at both aspects of your college life.  Not only will it help you later in life with time management, but it will also give you practice with prioritizing what needs to get done and what can wait.

These strategies allow you to keep your schedule organized and stay healthy and rested.  Doing this will help your overall mood and performance.  They keep you healthy and assist you in accomplishing your tasks.
